Chile & Argentina 2006
These photographs were taken in December & January 2006 during our trip to Chile and Argentina. Places visited were Santiago, Pucon, Torres Del Paine National Park, Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales and Puerto Montt in Chile and Bariloche, Esquel, Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, El Calafate, El Chalten and Buenos Aires in Argentina.
We celebrated some of the special occasions on the trip by spending Christmas in the Torres del Paine National Park, New Years Eve in Buenos Aires and the longest day of the year in Ushuaia - the most southerly town in the world. We also had the unique experience of being in Santiagio on the day Augustus Pinochet died - we saw a whole spectrum of emotions from the Chileans, some of whom were celebrating, others mourning or expresing anger. Other highlights of the trip were watching Orcas and Southern Right Whales and visiting the Magellanic Penguin Colony around Puerto Madryn, cruising the Beagle Channel and visiting the Los Glaciares National Park and Glaciar Gray at Torres Del Paine. Chile and Argentina are both stunning, with friendly people and a relaxed atmosphere - we made sure we tried the Calafate berries in Argentina and visited Magellan statue in Punta Arenas and rubbed the toe of the Fuegian Indian to make sure we go back. |
